UNESCO World Heritage Site –
Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch
The World Heritage Site, Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch, was the first natural heritage site in Switzerland and the entire alpine region. The magnificent mountain scenery all around the Jungfrau and the Great Aletsch Glacier encompasses a total of 824 km2, and because of its diversity, natural beauty and uniqueness it was declared the first natural heritage site of the Alps by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 2001.

The Aletsch Glacier – the longest in the entire alpine region with its 23 km – forms the centrepiece of the whole region, and furthermore, the north face is home to the renowned alpine trio Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The alpine region around this World Heritage Site is testimony to one of the most important chapters in the history of the world and provides a unique experience of nature.
