International Lauberhorn Races The Lauberhorn Races in Wengen take place against the backdrop of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountain range, and are probably Switzerland’s most famous winter sport event. The Men’s Downhill on the Lauberhorn is – along with the one on the Hahnenkamm (Kitzbühel, Austria) – the most prestigious and traditional of world cup ski races ever, and takes place every year during the second weekend in January. Races have been taking place in Wengen since 1930. Apart from the classic downhill, the event also features a combination and slalom race. The legendary Lauberhorn Downhill is the most well known; with its length of approx. 4.5 km and duration of 2:30 minutes, it is the longest of all downhill races and with a maximum speed of almost 160 km/h it is the fastest.
The slalom run from Wengen is considered to be one of the most difficult alpine world cup slopes.
